Britt Connors had planned to make her fourth work another full-length album, but after her 2020 pandemic release and then a health crisis with a diagnosis of Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) that required many procedures and a steep learning curve with cooking and lifestyle changes, she realized she did have 6 songs that had been written and recorded, some of which she and her band had been performing for 4 years already. When she finished the title track "Exhale," (a whirling 3/4 time Americana song with big bass drum and cello, reminding one of Jason Isbell or The Lone Bellow) she realized she needed to do just that and release these songs into the world before starting a new chapter. This EP (recorded mostly at Woolly Mammoth Sound in Waltham, MA) shows off her range of styles with a 4-horn section on two of the songs, keys/organ on three tunes, and her talented bandmates rounding out each tune with the disco-beat of "No Saint" and the watery percussion she added herself for "Tilting at Windmills."
